RMM

Remote Monitoring and Management.

Remote Monitoring and Management. A category of software that enables MSPs to monitor client endpoints and infrastructure remotely, deploy software and patches, run automated scripts, and respond to alerts without physically accessing the client site. The RMM is the technical backbone of a managed service practice — it provides the visibility and control that makes proactive service delivery economically viable at scale.

Common examples
NinjaOne, ConnectWise Automate (LabTech), Datto RMM, Kaseya VSA, Atera, SuperOps.
Companion software
PSA handles the business side (tickets, billing, contracts). RMM handles the technical side (monitoring, patching, access).
Why it matters
An MSP without an RMM is running reactive break-fix, not managed services. The RMM is what makes the managed services model economically possible.
