NOC Engineer

NOC engineers monitor client environments around the clock, triage automated alerts, and respond to infrastructure incidents before they impact end users. They are the early-warning system of the MSP.

Day-to-day

Responsibilities

Monitor real-time dashboards and RMM alert queues across 50–150 client environments

Triage and resolve P1/P2 incidents within defined response time SLAs

Tune alerting thresholds to reduce false positives without missing genuine issues

Document all incidents and resolutions in PSA and knowledge base

Escalate unresolved incidents to senior engineers with full chronological notes

Participate in post-incident reviews and contribute to root cause analysis

What you need

Requirements

2+ years of IT support or infrastructure experience

Familiarity with network monitoring tools (PRTG, SolarWinds, NinjaRMM)

Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and basic network troubleshooting

Experience with Windows Server administration and virtualization (Hyper-V, VMware)

Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends

CompTIA Network+ or equivalent certification preferred

Compensation

Typical salary range: $48,000 – $75,000

Ranges based on aggregated MSP operator data. Actual compensation depends on location, company size, and level of experience.
